The hardest thing
to accept is the loss of a pet.
It just seems you
are never ready to let go yet.
Everyone else
seems to see.
But what they see
just doesn’t seem like the reality.
You see them only
when they are at their best.
The bad is only
seen by the rest.
“They must be
crazy, look how good she is today.”
If only that could
be the everyday way.
You know in your
heart it’s not.
But you try to
believe it, cause that’s all you’ve got.
That’s the only
hope you have to hold.
To you she is
worth much more than gold.
In your heart
you’re the only one that cares.
You feel mad
because she’s not theirs.
She suddenly
becomes only yours.
The daily routines
are no longer chores.
You are happy to
walk her in the middle of the night.
When you’re
petting her everything seems like it will be all right.
So on and on, you
hope and you pray.
You can’t imagine
life without her the next day.
For all these
years she’s all that you’ve known.
Together the two
of you somehow have grown.
She’s brought you
happiness when you were down.
When you needed
her she was always around.
Even though at
times you got mad,
Without her you
would be so sad.
|
Sometimes you
didn’t want to take her for a walk.
Yet she always
listened when you wanted to talk.
She was the only
one that would keep every secret you told.
You just assumed
she would be there until you got old.
Well you’re grown
up now and she’s given all that she could.
I know she’d stick
around longer if only she could.
But she’s hurting
now and she wants to be free.
She’s much better
off and in time you will see.
She doesn’t want
to become a burden to you.
She hates the
things that you now have to do.
She knows she’s
heavy and at times it’s rough.
She knows that
getting her up those steps is tough.
She doesn’t want
to see you strain.
She doesn’t want
to feel any more pain.
In her own way she
was asking for this.
All she needed
from you was that last pet and kiss.
And when you gave
it to her and told her it was time,
She felt so
relieved, she relaxed her mind.
She’s done so much
for you since you were a kid.
And she’ll never
forget all the things that you did.
In her life you
were her number one.
You both gave each
other so much laughter and fun.
I know it’s hard
cause this is the end,
It hurts when you
lose your dearest friend.
But she’s
somewhere now where she can run free,
And be someday
reunited with you and with me.
